Today’s Quote: "Plans fail for lack of counsel, but with many advisers they succeed." - King Solomon
Today’s Question: Are you listening?
My Thoughts: The world is telling you what you need to do. Your friends are telling you what you need to do. But are you listening to what is being said? All the answers to the questions you have in life are right their for you...if you just take a moment to listen.

ANSWERS REMINDER #11: GIVE A FRIEND A HUG
ANSWERS REMINDER #11: GIVE A FRIEND A HUG
It is a medical fact that showing some of the most basic signs of affection can improve your health. Dogs are taken to nursing homes and children's hospitals because just petting a pooch can measurably reduce stress and frustration. You may not be a puppy, but there is something just as simple that you can do.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Go out of you way to say hi to people you don't get the chance to speak to on a regular basis. Shake the hand of the new person in your office and warmly introduce yourself. Give a good friend a hug. Take a little bit of time out of your day to do some little bitty thing to put a smile on someone's face.

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/10/09
Today’s Quote: "Life is just a mirror, and what you see out there, you must first see inside of you." - Wally 'Famous' Amos
Today’s Question: What image are you projecting to the world?
My Thoughts: Take a moment when you can and take a good look at yourself in the ‘mirror.’ Take a note of what image you see ‘reflecting’ back at you? Is that the same image you are projecting to the outside world? And more importantly, are people seeing through your projected image?

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/9/09
Today’s Quote: "The last temptation is the greatest treason: to do the right deed for the wrong reason." - T. S. Eliot
Today’s Question: Do others question your motives?
My Thoughts: Are your motives always just? Are you often questioned openly about the true intentions of your actions? People are by nature suspicious, but sometimes you need to keep in mind the exact message you are sending out to the world may not be the exact truth, and the truth is always looking for a way to shine through. Sometimes, you’ve got to question your own motives to make sure you are both projecting and living the same, truthful message.

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/8/09
Today’s Quote: "Be to her virtues very kind. Be to her faults a little blind." - Matthew Prior
Today’s Question: What do you choose to see in other people?
My Thoughts: Everyone has their own faults. Some people are trying to work their way trough a few of them, some people choose to be as they are, but most of these faults are essentially harmless. Assuming that the people you surround yourself with are not showing openly hostile faults, what are the people around you showing as their faults? Actually, two better questions would be, what are the faults you are seeing in these people, and what faults are you not seeing in these people. You get the ultimate choice to tune in and out whatever you are seeing, so just make sure you are making the right choices.

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/7/09
Today’s Quote: "I'd rather work with someone who's good at their job but doesn't like me, than someone who likes me but is a ninny." - Sam Donaldson
Today’s Question: Are you surrounded by the right people?
My Thoughts: Circumstances may place people in you life, but the choice to keep those people around is ultimately up to you. This is done consciencly and unconsciously by the actions you make around these people every day. Are you letting people who are toxic to you get away with there bad actions? Are you pushing away people who are trying to be good to you by not reciprocating actions?

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/6/09
Today’s Quote: "One doesn't discover new lands without consenting to lose sight of the shore for a very long time." - Andre Gide
Today’s Question: Do you have an adventurer's spirit?
My Thoughts: Taking on a new challenge can often mean putting yourself in harms way. Whether it is facing up to a physical obstacle or attempting a new process for a clerical task, the payoff is essentially the same, but you have to be willing to take a chance and attempt what is unknown to you, or you will never know just how well you could be. Are you willing to step away from safety in pursuit of your next great discovery?

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/5/09
Today’s Quote: "Waiting is a trap. There will always be reasons to wait. The truth is, there are only two things in life, reasons and results, and reasons simply don't count." - Dr. Robert Anthony
Today’s Question: Is it really a good reason?
My Thoughts: You’ve got plenty of reasons why or why not. Or so you think. What if those reasons are just excuses you are making for yourself? Whether they are well thought out or not, using what sounds like a rational reason is just another simple excuse to get you out of trouble and ease your conscience in the process.

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/4/09
Today’s Quote: “We can change if we want to.” - Denis Waitley
Today’s Question: Do you really want to change?
My Thoughts: Has it been eight months since you made your last batch of New Year’s Resolutions that you didn’t live up to, or is it four months until you make your next batch of New Year’s Resolutions that you don’t intent to live up to? The problem with wanting to do better means making changes, and even changes for the better require a strong meaning behind the chance. Humans are naturally resistant to change in the first place, and will eagerly choose to repeat harmful and destructive behavior instead of choosing to make even a simple change. Do you have a strong enough reason to fight the fear and make the changes necessary in your life?

ANSWERS REMINDER #10: EMBRACE THE POWER OF A MENTOR
ANSWERS REMINDER #10: EMBRACE THE POWER OF A MENTOR
Wouldn't it be great if for every pursuit you had, there was some sort of blueprint to achieve it? An instruction booklet for your goals and dreams, with an easy to access index to get the exact answer you want when you want it? A teacher who has made the mistakes you don't want to waste you time with, who knows the keys to true success in a field? There is such a thing. It is called a mentor.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Trailblazers are there for a reason. Whether willing or reluctant, they clear the path for those who are to come after them. You don't have to do their work over again. Find yourself a mentor in the field you are pursuing and take their advice to heart. A good mentor will want to pass their knowledge along to future generations for both the common good and the personal ego. And both are a good thing.

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/3/09
Today’s Quote: "The greatest lesson of life is that you are responsible for your life." - Oprah Winfrey
Today’s Question: Are you living up to your responsibilities in your life?
My Thoughts: Remember when you were a kid, and your parents gave you some chore that seemed like it would be impossible to finish by yourself? Believe it or not, that is the perfect scenario to teach a child about responsibilities, by setting them up for an early failure. But your parents didn’t want to teach you how to feel like a loser, they wanted to teach you how it felt to overcome tough obstacles and to face up to your responsibilities, regardless of what pain and sorrow you would expect it to bring. Remember how you felt when you found you were able to complete that chore with plenty of time to spare? How many new, adult sized chores and responsibilities are you shirking because you think you are being set up to fail? How did they become your responsibilities in the first place? If they aren’t really yours, let some else get them done. If they are really yours, then you get them done.

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/2/09
Today’s Quote: "The one thing more difficult than following a regimen is not imposing it on others." - Marcel Proust
Today’s Question: Is your way always the right way?
My Thoughts: Do you insist on things being done your way all the time? Is your way truly the only way, or are you just trying to guide others with a little too much gusto? Unless your baking or handing deadly explosives, chances are there is more than one way to get a job accomplished. Your way may be great, and may be a great way to learn if someone doesn’t already know how, but how much difference would it make if you let them do it there way?

Today’s Quote & Question For 8/1/09
Today’s Quote: “Dying is a very dull, dreary affair. And my advice to you is to have nothing whatever to do with it.” - W. Somerset Maugham
Today’s Question: Are you already dead?
My Thoughts: Just like in the movies and video games, zombies are roaming the earth. Unlike in popular fiction however, they don’t want to literally eat our brains, but they a great job of sucking the collective life force from the weak and unexpecting. Call it a ‘dead soul’ if you will, there are plenty of people in this world with no real spark of life in them. These are not the boring people that don’t want to go out to clubs or the shy people that are hesitant to strike up a conversation. These are people who have at some point given up hope and are just living out there lives because the alternative is a little too harsh. Deep down, these people are alive, but they don’t live, work, act, or interact with the same zest for life that those around them do, and their negative energy brings down everyone around them. Take a moment to make sure you not are among the ‘living dead,’ feeding on the energy of those unfortunate souls around you, slowing creating more of your kind, especially not on purpose!

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/31/09
Today’s Quote: “I am free of all prejudice. I hate everyone equally.” - W. C. Fields
Today’s Question: Do you have enough hate in your life?
My Thoughts: I have very serious discussions with friends about my own need to hate. I have found that when I have a target to focus complete disgust toward, I can feel better about everything and everyone else in the same category as my target hate. You may not want to believe it, but a little bit of focused hate can be good for you too. This in not bias or blind rage, but a true refusal to accept something or someone that is truly bad for you or willfully refuses to fall in line with your personal standards.

Today’s Quote: "You're never a loser until you quit trying." - Mike Ditka
Today’s Question: At what point do you decide it’s not worth the effort to fight anymore?
My Thoughts: Whenever you find yourself in the face of conflict, unless you are totally sold on the idea that you are by all means correct, there will come a point when the idea of just giving up and walking away will come into your head. Do you have a common trigger for that? What makes you decide that it is truly time to give up the fight? And conversely, what could convince you that the fight is actually worth the effort?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/29/09
Today’s Quote: “Win as if you were used to it, lose as if you enjoyed it for a change” – Golnik Eric
Today’s Question: Are you as respectful in winning as in losing?
My Thoughts: Sore winners and losers alike will easily ruin a competition, especially a competition that only exists in the mind of the sore winner and loser. One of the simple keys to getting through life with few scars (physical and emotional) is to make a solid attempt to be gracious, even in the hands of defeat, and especially from the risers of victory.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/28/09
Today’s Quote: "Respect a man, he will do the more." - James Howell
Today’s Question: Are you waiting to get respect before you give it in return?
My Thoughts: There is an overused saying that you have to give respect to get respect. I think it’s overused because you will usually hear those words coming out of the mouth of someone wanting you to earn their respect before they consider respecting you. The words are intended to operate as an olive branch, with the person saying them giving the proper respect first, and the receiver left with no choice but reciprocation. That is normally not the case. Why don’t you try giving out a little more respect first, instead of waiting to be respected--or worse, offended--to act?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/27/09
Today’s Quote: "The game of life is the game of boomerangs. Our thoughts, deeds and words return to us sooner or later, with astounding accuracy." - Florence Shinn
Today’s Question: Would you like to receive back the same thoughts and emotions you send out to the world?
My Thoughts: Whenever the right moments hit me, I like to do fun and silly things that have no apparent reason. The actual reason is to spread a little bit of positive energy when I have a little bit to spare in hopes that when I’m later low on positive energy, some with be sent my way. I am very careful at the times when I allow myself to just be dark and brooding, because I know that attitude can be passed on to those nearby and eventually back to me, which is not the way to get out of the funk I was already in. Do you send out positive or negative energy most of the time? Would you like to get the same energy you send out back in return?

ANSWERS REMINDER #9: ACTUALLY MAKE TIME FOR WHAT IS IMPORTANT
ANSWERS REMINDER #9: ACTUALLY MAKE TIME FOR WHAT IS IMPORTANT
If something is important to you, you will find a way to make time for it. Because of my love of media and hopes to grow in my career, I managed to find the time to work and extra 3-6 hours Monday through Friday working in radio, which is on top of my 8 hours a day working in television and my 8 hours on Sunday with radio. I even found a way to reschedule my workload so that I would have every evening to spend with my wife, plus all day Saturday. What got shoved to the bottom of the pile and back of my mind were the things that I 'said' were important: personal development training, journaling, my web media business, and sleep. Well, I never though sleep was important, but I’m finding that was a flawed idea on my part . . .
THIS WEEK'S TIP: This week I am taking the extra effort to take my own advice. WE all need to sit down and figure out what is really important, and make the time necessary to get it done. I've already sacrificed sleep to work more hours and still have a quality family life. Now I have to carve out a few minutes here and there to get the business back in form, because I miss doing these emails. Since I insist the side business is important, I have to find the time to make it work. You also must find a way to make the precious minutes or hours needed to do what you claim is important to you.

Today’s Question: Do you need to take a break?
My Thoughts: Have you been working yourself a little harder than normal? Are you feeling the early effects of fatigue, or worse, its full effects? Or do you feel like you probably should be tired? Today’s Quote: “If you don't make mistakes, you're not working on hard enough problems. And that's a big mistake.” - Frank Wilczek
Today’s Question: Are you making enough mistakes?
My Thoughts: For some people, their reason for a lack of success it truly because they are not failing enough to get there. They are not putting their neck out to take chances, to make mistakes and learn from them. Even in the agony of defeat, the lessons learned can often prove more valuable that a marginal win. Are your allowing yourself to make as many mistake as necessary, without totally ruining your endeavors? Are you learning from those mistakes?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/22/09
Today’s Quote: “The great secret that all old people share is that you really haven't changed in 70 or 80 years. Your body changes, but you don't change at all.” - Doris Lessing
Today’s Question: Do you regard age as an enemy or a friend?
My Thoughts: With age comes a sense of wisdom to realize, much later that needed, that you should have known better than to do a lot of the things you did that seemed like a great idea at the time. While the frailty of your body may lead to the ability to do less physically with age, those lucky enough to have a sharp mind and to have live a less jaded life have the power to instill the knowledge of a wonderful past onto the next generations, and hope they actually choose to learn from your mistake, or at least make new, creative mistake of their own.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/21/09
Today’s Quote: "We need men who can dream of things that never were." - John F. Kennedy
Today’s Question: Can you ‘see’ your dreams before you start to work on making them come true?
My Thoughts: The ability to visualize is a key for designers of all types. Architects and constructions workers need to ‘see’ the building as they are building it. Computer programmers and web designs need to ‘see’ the finished product and the thousands of lines of code needed translate it from their computers to yours. And you have your own goals and dreams, and no matter what size they are, your ability to ‘see’ the end result, and even some of the progress you will make, will help you stay motivated to actually keep working to get there when the inevitable setbacks do set in. ‘Seeing’ is believing in this case.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/20/09
Today’s Quote: "That's one small step for [a] man, one giant leap for mankind" - Neil Armstrong
Today’s Question: What will you do today that will go down in ‘history?’
My Thoughts: We will not all be fortunate to be remembered in history books for the things we have done, but our daily travails will live on when we are gone in the memories of our families and friends, and long after we’re gone n the stories they tell their grandchildren. You should do your best to make every day as memorable as possible, and in a positive way. Our lives become ‘history’ as soon as the moment passes. You should probably think a little harder about what ‘history’ will say about you when you leave this earth. You should definitely think a little harder about what ‘history’ will say about you when you leave a room.

ANSWERS REMINDER #8: PRE-PLAN, PREPARE, PREVIEW
When I originally wrote this week's reminder, I had missed a week of publishing the newsletter after five weeks of consistently as a direct result of me not following this week's reminder. Falling victim to those 'circumstances beyond my control,' I was unable to write up a fresh newsletter. It shouldn't have been a problem, because I thought I had at least eight completed write-ups on file that I could insert for just this reason. Turns out I only had eight topics written down that I had planned to latter turn into write-ups. Oops . . .
THIS WEEK'S TIP: I pre-planned for a few weeks without the time or creativity to publish a fresh newsletter. But I didn't do enough to prepare for this, and obviously waited too late to preview what I had in the way of a back up plan. Take the time to learn from my small scale mistake before you make a similar one on a large scale. Pre-plan. Prepare. Preview.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/19/09
Today’s Quote: "The truth is that there is nothing noble in being superior to somebody else. The only real nobility is in being superior to your former self." - Whitney Young
Today’s Question: Are you working to better yourself or be better than those around you?
My Thoughts: Are you truly looking to making your self a better person or are you really just trying to make sure you’re seen as not just keeping up with the Joneses, but being a step better? As a person who will admit to being addicted to self improvement despite an crazy amount of setbacks, I have to make sure I am keeping myself in check constantly, to ensure I am trying to improve myself for myself and those around me, not just out of jealousy for what someone else has that I selfishly believe should be mine.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/18/09
Today’s Quote: "The wisest mind has something yet to learn." - George Santayana
Today’s Question: Have you reached your limit on learning?
My Thoughts: The person who thinks they have nothing left to learn has a serious lesson coming to them. You can never stop learning. As soon as you choose to slack off in the quest for knowledge, you’ll find you’re literally allowing brain cells to die a slow death.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/17/09
Today’s Quote: "The few who do are the envy of the many who only watch." - Jim Rohn
Today’s Question: What would happen if you stopped ‘doing?’
My Thoughts: Do you feel like you’re the only person you know that is trying to accomplish something? Like you are the only human on the planet who is actively doing…anything? Chances are your exaggerating, but the basic premise is true. You are doing a lot, while others around you that should be doing more just aren’t. So what would happen if you stopped? Will you find your actions were important or trivial? Are you doing things worth doing, or just doing what you’re used to?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/16/09
Today’s Quote: “Dreaming permits each and every one of us to be quietly and safely insane every night of our lives.” - Charles William Dement
Today’s Question: Are you brave enough to share some of your crazier ideas?
My Thoughts: Everyone has a bit of a wild side. Some of us are just a little looser with just how much of that side gets to see the light of day during regular business hours. Keeping your emotions in check is the perfect game plan for a poker player, but in the corporate and even the real world, a little more human frailty can sometimes be a better play. How secure of you of your ideas--and yourself?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/15/09
Today’s Quote: "No trumpets sound when the important decisions of our life are made. Destiny is made known silently." - Agnes de Mille
Today’s Question: Are you struggling with making major decisions?
My Thoughts: Every day is filled with millions of decisions that must me made to move forward. Most are fairly simple and mundane and obvious: getting out of bed, what to have for breakfast, which radio stations do you listen to on the drive in, etc. But there are plenty of major, possibly life altering decisions that come up in your life that take a little be of though to ensure the proper consequence is obtained. For some people, an important decision is actually a life-pauser. Instead of making that move--or not--to be free of the burden, they stall, and let the stress build up. For some, losing the chance for not making the decision is better than taking the leap and failing at it. Is this you?

Today’s Quote: "He who every morning plans the transaction of the day and follows out that plan, carries a thread that will guide him through the maze of the most busy life. But where no plan is laid, where the disposal of time is surrendered merely to the chance of incidence, chaos will soon reign." - Victor Hugo
Today’s Question: Is not keeping a tight schedule keeping chaos in your life?
My Thoughts: Ironically or coincidentally, am a working on time management in a weekly course on self improvement, and I was woefully unprepared for the amount of work involved to get a life back on track. To be honest, I am a great manager of my own time and efforts, and can effectively manage times for tasks of those that report to me. I have learned that other people are horrible managers of of my time though, and last minute emergencies are becoming more of the norm that I would like it at least. If it were as easy as just saying no I'd have my stress level lowered by half, but that is not the case.

ANSWERS REMINDER #7: GIVE YOURSELF A TREAT
ANSWERS REMINDER #7: GIVE YOURSELF A TREAT
McDonald's had it right on with one of their old slogans, "You Deserve A Break Today." Life is a hectic combination of activities--going to work, going to school, commutes here and there, regular exercise, career planning, balancing your checkbook, spending time with family and friends, and just maybe getting 8 hour of uninterrupted sleep. That was a general list I made for this writing. I'm sure you could write a personal list of things that need to get done that would be even longer.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: I know you have plenty of things that need to get done, but if it can wait a few hours, or even days, take a little time out to give yourself a little treat to keep your spirits up. Make sure it is just a little one. Enjoy a mini vacation of whatever you find relaxing. Light some scented candles and talk a long bubble bath, go for a double or even triple scoop of ice cream, visit a favorite restaurant or try a new place. The whole point is to take a break from the everyday grind in order to give you small dose of relief before you are totally overcome with battle fatigue.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/13/09
Today’s Quote: "Do or do not. There is no try." - Yoda
Today’s Question: What is your biggest excuse for not succeeding?
My Thoughts: We all have plenty of reasons and excuses for why we may not have made the best of our situations. But do you have a recurring theme in your excuses? More importantly, if you could instantly eliminate that one big excuse that is standing in your way, would you willingly let go of it?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/12/09
Today’s Quote: "When people keep telling you that you can't do a thing, you kind of like to try it." - Margaret Chase Smith
Today’s Question: Do you tend to try harder because of the doubts of others?
My Thoughts: Spite has always been a very powerful motivator for me. All I needed was the slightest notion that someone didn’t think I could pull off a task, and then I would always prove them wrong. And while I would never prescribe the spite method as the most stable of ways to help you get a point across to naysayers, I will testify to its effectiveness. Do you let the doubts of others motivate you to greater heights? Do you let those doubts bring you down?

Today’s Quote: "We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails." - Bertha Calloway
Today’s Question: Have you mastered the art of going with the flow?
My Thoughts: I personally work better when their is structure in my work and my life. But I can, despite unbelief from friends and family, work well when dealing with flexibility. But not ‘hurry up and wait.’ Flexibility is a key for managing yourself in a world that is determined to get you into whatever it wants you into.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/10/09
Today’s Quote: “I know not, sir, whether Bacon wrote the works of Shakespeare, but if he did not it seems to me that he missed the opportunity of his life.” - James M. Barrie
Today’s Question: What event in your life didn’t happen that made you the success you are today?
My Thoughts: There is a saying in professional sports about the trade that didn’t happen that triggered a player to step up their game and take the team to the next level. Think about your life and look for the thing that didn’t happen that could have derailed you from being the you you are today. Did you give up sports to play piano? Did you bomb the interview for your dream job and find another, better career path? Did you lose a phone number to a person you intended to call, and found yourself free to date someone else?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/9/09
Today’s Quote: "Even with the best of maps and instruments, we can never fully chart our journeys." - Gail Pool
Today’s Question: Can you enjoy the trip without having a firm destination?
My Thoughts: Life is a journey. When you reach your final destination, you have literally reached a ‘dead end’ to the journey. Most of your life will be spent moving towards something, hopefully some milestone you have set for yourself. But many times you will seem to be wandering aimlessly for a destination that you have no idea your headed to until you get their. Since preparations is possible, but not always reliable, you’ll never know just how well you prepared yourself in advance until you find yourself there. For some the wait is unbearable, while others find the mystery a source of excitement.

Today’s Quote: "If you want to be respected, you must respect yourself." - Spanish Proverb
Today’s Question: If you won’t stand up for yourself, who do you expect to stand up for you?
My Thoughts: While lasting respect has to be earned over time, the time is now to begin earning it. You should never let anyone bully you in you life and actions. I know that it might be easier said than done, and there may be times in your live when the best route is to stand back an let a stronger personality take the right of way, but that is not the same as dealing with a stronger person.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/7/09
Today’s Quote: "I am patient with stupidity but not with those who are proud of it." - Edith Sitwell
Today’s Question: Do you live believe that 'ignorance is bliss?'
My Thoughts: Why would you want to not know? What good is living your life if you choose to reside with a permanent fog around you? With so many things in live to experience, and so little relative time on this planet to get it done, why would you waste a single moment tying not to know things? Why not simply learn your lessons, apply them quickly, and move on to the next experience?

ANSWERS REMINDER #6: ACT LIKE YOU'RE GETTING PAID FOR IT
ANSWERS REMINDER #6: ACT LIKE YOU'RE GETTING PAID FOR IT
You've put off editing that first novel for weeks. You think it has potential, but the work you put into it takes away from the work that is paying the bills right now. There is a big account at the office you've been working on, which could mean a raise and a possible promotion. So you've been putting off some needed editing to your first novel because of the possibility of monetary freedom that will finally give you the time to edit that first novel, right?
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Waiting on the right amount of freedom to pursue your dreams will leave you waiting for a long, long time. So treat your personal project as a paid project, and prioritize the time to work on it. Treat your project as a contracted deliverable, and put yourself on a deadline. The sooner you get it done, the sooner you’ll get a chance to actually sell it for real.

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/6/09
Today’s Quote: "Make rest a necessity, not an objective. Only rest long enough to gather strength." - Jim Rohn
Today’s Question: Is rest something that recharges you or drains you?
My Thoughts: Believe it or not, some people just don’t get the concept of ‘rest.’ Some people are so driven to make their next goal point that they see rest and down time as nonproductive time, and being nonproductive is the equivalent to being dead. But that’s not what rest is. To be a little obvious, rest and down time is meant to recharge spent physical and emotional batteries. Are you working your rest correctly?

Today’s Quote: "Enjoy your own life without comparing it with that of another." - Marquis de Condorcet
Today’s Question: Are you your own person?
My Thoughts: It takes a lot of courage to do things your own way. The kind of courage I wish I always have, but honestly know I can not claim to. Despite always having a 'good' reason for not going against the crowd, there are times when you know you should be doing things your own way. Do you possess that courage?

Today’s Quote & Question For 7/4/09
Today’s Quote: “Maybe the greatest challenge now is to find a way to keep independence while also committing ourselves to the ties that bind people, families, and ultimately societies together.” - Jane O'Reilly
Today’s Question: Are you claiming you own independence today?
My Thoughts: Today in the United States, we are taking the time to celebrate our still relatively young nation declaring itself independent from our mother country Great Britain. Over 200 years later, we Americans are still doing our best to prove just how resilient and creative we are. Sure, the hot dogs and fireworks are fun, but they are just a symbol of the very long and hard struggles that we as a nation have gone though, and the struggles to come. But have you declared your personal independence from the tyranny of self doubt and lack? Why not do it on a symbolic day like today?

Today’s Quote: "I was brought up to believe that how I saw myself was more important than how others saw me." - Anwar el-Sadat
Today’s Question: Do you let others define who you are?
My Thoughts: Here is a saying that has a few dozen variations, but comes to the same meaning: If you don’t plan for how you want to spend your time, someone will plan your time for you. It all comes down to who you want to be ultimately in control of your life. You would think that the answer would be ‘yourself,’ but often people don’t a basic job taking care of themselves, and just allow themselves to be led by whomever is around.

Today’s Quote: "Farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil, and you're a thousand miles from the corn field." - Dwight D. Eisenhower
Today’s Question: Have you found a happy medium between being a planner and a do'er?
My Thoughts: I am defiantly a do’er, an action oriented person. But I have as much respect as I have frustration for the planners. Frustration from the planners who are so focused on the perfection of the plan, it keeps everyone from actually getting anything accomplished. Myself, I have found my medium, although begrudgingly, in doing proper planning before jumping into doing. It isn’t natural for me, but when I choose to do it right, it proves very effective.

Today’s Quote: "I have always felt that the moment when first you wake up in the morning is the most wonderful of the twenty-four hours." - Monica Baldwin
Today’s Question: What changes should you make to assure a great start to your day?
My Thoughts: I know that my days always start out on a good note when I get in some early exercise and follow it up with a light and healthy breakfast. The problem for me is my schedule, which back when it was a 4AM start time didn’t allow it, and now that it should be steady later start but isn’t, makes keeping to a routine a little more difficult. My changes to ensure I can start off a day with the activities to keep it from being dreadful are simple, but currently not completely in my control: change jobs with a solid schedule that pulls in a whole lot of money! Until that happens, I am forced to manage. What changes can you make to start yourself off with a sunnier disposition?

Today’s Quote & Question For 6/30/09
Today’s Quote: "Never say more than is necessary." - Richard Brinsley Sheridan
Today’s Question: Are you a capable manager of your economy of words?
My Thoughts: Are you using just the right amount of words to get your point across? Are you not using enough words and having your message fall short? Are you using too many words and confusing the message or turning away the receive before transmission? We all know people (and some of us are those people) who talk well past the selling point of an idea, and will actually turn others away from great ideas. How well are you managing your word count to get your point across?
Today’s Question: Are you a capable manager of your economy of words?

ANSWERS REMINDER #5: DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY
ANSWERS REMINDER #5: DON'T TAKE IT PERSONALLY
Your customers are on the rampage today. Your cab driver is having a family crisis. Your suppliers have lost your shipment. Everything that could go wrong today has gone wrong. But that is nothing for you to worry about.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Remember, whatever problem the rest of the world is having, this has nothing to do with you personally. It’s not your fault that everyone else’s world decided to crumble around them today, so you make due. Take a deep breath, and plug away with your day. Give a smile and a few words of sympathy. If you can help, help. Otherwise, focus on keeping your day on track.

ANSWERS REMINDER #4: IT IS IMPORTANT TO DO SOMETHING
ANSWERS REMINDER #4: IT IS IMPORTANT TO DO SOMETHING
Procrastination and fear are two enemies of motivation that will cause a person to not take needed action. Living your life and fulfilling your dreams is what you should be doing, not worrying about whether the wrong decision will destroy you. Problems from making the wrong decision can usually be recovered from. Indecision can leave you completely in the cold.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Don't just sit there…do something! Even if you’re not sure what to do, that is really when it is important to do something. Even if you wind up doing the wrong thing, sometimes it’s the only way you can figure out what is the right thing to do. Take a page in your daily journal every day to write down all the things you took a chance on, even if it is a small as trying a new dish at your favorite restaurant. Very soon, you will have a long list of new accomplishments.

ANSWERS REMINDER #3: KNOW YOUR LIMITS
ANSWERS REMINDER #3: KNOW YOUR LIMITS
I read an article once on people who do extreme-type outdoors sports—mountain climbers and white water rafters and the like—having what they call a 'bad pain memory'. When at their limits, they will push themselves just a little harder to go a little further, and end up paying the consequences in longer recovery time, and sometimes, with the loss of their life. They usually swear they will never to do it again, but just a few hours later, they’re planning their next excursion—or maybe or just heading straight to the trail with no plan whatsoever.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: There is a point of excess and exhaustion to every activity, and a good part of being responsible for yourself is to know your personal limits, and then actually stopping well before you have reached dangerous levels. Overextending your time, money and obligations are just as bad as overextending your body, for whatever reason.

ANSWERS REMINDER #2: THINGS TAKE TIME
ANSWERS REMINDER #2: THINGS TAKE TIME
Rome wasn’t built in a day, remember? Its rise took decades of careful planning, and its fall was the result of a series of problems that made the situation grow steadily worse day by day. Why would you expect instant weight loss, instant financial freedom, instant career success, or even love at first sight?
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Start by relaxing. Take a deep breath and remember you can only progress one move at a time. Progression works best when you have a plan to follow. Only a plan will help you know if you are going in the direction you think you want to go, instead of hoping that one day you will just end up there. Think things out logically, write down how you want to get there, and remember that every journey will take as long as it is supposed to take. Take your time, and enjoy the journey!

ANSWERS REMINDER #1: YOU'VE GOT TOO MANY IDEAS
ANSWERS REMINDER #1: YOU'VE GOT TOO MANY IDEAS
Admit it. You are an 'ideas' person. Of the uncountable number of random events that happen, any one of them could be the idea that will help you make your second, third, or 300 million. But you haven't figured out how to make that first million yet.
THIS WEEK'S TIP: Take a sheet of paper and write down your ideas. Anything you would like to accomplish or comes to mind, as crazy as it might seem. Go over that list, and then strike out all the ideas you know you don't have the time, support, or desire to truly pursue. Prioritize whatever is left as what you think you can accomplish first, second, third, and so on, until you reach the end of your list. Stick to this list for a week, then reevaluate. If you need to subtract some items from your list, now is the time. Finally, pick a regular period of time you would like for evaluation of your list, and stick to it.
